||Craftmanship - 5/5
All the parts and pieces came pre-assembled, filled with ink and ready to install.
Installation - 5/5
Simple and straight forward. Practically plug and play, so to speak.
Support - 5/5
With instructions available both in the box and on the website, as well as youtube videos and an online discussion forum, it would be difficult to screw things up and not find help.
Operation - 3/5
This particular model does not have a reset button as part of its cartridge circuit system. Epson cartridges are measured by page count, so when a color reaches it's count, it requires resetting. Without a reset button, you have to manually remove all four cartridges together, then re-insert them. This in and of itself is not a big deal, nor is it difficult.
What is a problem is that the printer will quit mid-print. Then, after resetting the cartridges by removing and re-inserting them, the printer needs to charge them. At this time, the printer kicks out the partially printed sheet, charges the ink, then wants to finish the print queue. It's best to stop the queue rather than wasting another sheet of paper, then re-print the page.
What makes this problem worse is that the cartridges are never "empty" at the same time. During my recent run of 80+ text/photo prints on 100lb paper, I had several occasions where I was forced to stop mid-print, reset a particular color, start printing again, then stop to reset another color.
All in all, it's still cheaper than buying Epson ink cartridges, or even generic ones. But when you're doing large batch printing, it requires some patience and wasted paper.
Color - 3/5
Colors are vibrant, but inaccurate. I didn't expect them to be spot on, but without a proper color profile, deep colors come across as very dark. Light colors, particularly yellow, are very subtle.
I bought this unit as a sort of test of Continuous Ink Systems in general. I know there are more expensive ones and I also know that my printer is not a particularly high quality one. The system does it's job, though not without some headaches. I foresee using a similar system in the future once I invest in a higher quality photo printer.
