I am having a similar issue to others in the fact that my brother printer says it cannot detect the ink level for the black. I ordered a refill kit from you some time ago and the cartridges came with bottles of refill ink. They however were already full of ink and I have been using the ink that came in them until today. I refilled them and the printer shows ink level for all except the black. It prints fine but says it cannot detect ink level and in the status screen it shows a ? for the black cartridge. Not sure what the issue is. Thanks.

No one has any idea as to the cause? I have seen this same problem listed before surely you have an idea as to a solution?

I also sent CIS an email about this issue about 2 weeks ago and have yet to hear from them.

Hello,

I do apologize for the slow response.

We found out that when the black cartridge cannot recognize for a brother printer, it is most likely that the cartridge is not fitting inside the printer all the way.

We discovered through trial and error , that if you see the black cartridge, you will notice that there is a L-Shaped black plastic that goes in the back of the cartridge. This L-Shaped black plastic is directly above the nozzle of the cartridge (the portion of the cartridge with the plastic film).

You will need to remove this L-Shaped black plastic. The easiest way to go about this, is to open the cartridge. You can split the  cartridge in half (don't worry about the ink spilling, as it is encased in another plastic case within this cartridge shell). Please make sure you remember all the pieces on the cartridge, as splitting it down the middle to remove the L-Shape plastic, may make the locking arm or chip fall off.

You can also just pry open the back of the cartridge and wiggle out that plastic piece. Let us know if this works for you. It has worked for us and several customers with the same issues.
