Purchased a continuous ink system for my HP Officejet 6500 a couple of years ago. Bought this set of inks last year. I'm back again this year for another set. Total cost for the two years of printing I've done so far - about $100. I figure I've gone through about 200 ml of each color of ink at this point, and about 300 ml of black. An HP 920XL cartridge contains about 8 ml of colored ink or 32 ml of black ink (http://h10060.www1.hp.com/pageyield/en-150/yields/OJAIO6500- E709_page.html?cCode=il), so I've used the equivalent of 25 cartridges of each color, and about 10 black cartridges. (25 color cartridges * $12 / apiece) * 3 colors + 10 black cartridges * $30 = $1200 for new cartridges, or about half that for remanufactured.
This is the best thing I've ever done for my Inkjet. I'm perfectly willing to spend $50 a year on ink, but I'm sure not willing to spend $600. Other than a little color mixing that happened the last time I refilled, I haven't had a lick of trouble. I really love the fact that, if I do have a clog, I can run the printers purge cycle as many times as I want to clear the clog without having to worry about how much it's costing me (my last Epson almost caused bankruptcy trying to clear clogs).
If the kids want to print 25 full page blurry pictures of the dog, I say more power to 'em - it keeps them busy and costs me almost nothing.
Do it, you'll be happy you did.
